The Cost of Freedom

Abchinadoll | Confession | Sunday, 25 May 2008

And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.

‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

I still remember learning Lee Greenwood’s song for my sixth grade program. Even now, I love to sing along, especially during the chorus.

Today is Memorial Day, when we commemorate the men and women who sacrificed their lives to uphold our freedoms. My parents left their country and immigrated here with hopes of a “better life” for themselves and for their children. I am unabashedly patriotic and proud to be an American. I am grateful for the service and sacrifices made for me. And from the bottom of my heart, to these men and women, I say “Thank you.”
